Perspective:

The  human body evolved moving and has to keep active.

It’s  more exciting than ever to be a Senior Trainer.
The body of research about exercise for people over 50 keeps growing.

When lungs and heart work effectively to deliver oxygen to muscles this improves  circulation and cardio-vascular performance. Tissues around the lungs work more efficiently. As muscles strengthen you do more work with less exertion. Improved circulation makes the “good” (HDL) cholesterol flush out the artery-clogging LDL.

For diabetics, exercise helps reduce blood sugar levels.

Studies of mental functioning are encouraging:  “Exercise has a dramatic anti-depressive effect…  blunting  the brain’s response to physical and emotional stress. Regular cardiovascular exercise can spark growth of new blood vessels to nourish the brain and this ‘neurogenesis’ may help counteract cognitive decline.” (Source: Dr. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.)

Working out slows the progression of age-related ailments.

Neurodegenerative disorders: Exercise is a vital component in maintaining balance, mobility and activities of daily living and in combating depression in Parkinson’s patients. (My clients successfully exercise as a complementary strategy with PD medications.)

Jo has shown me ways to make my life better, is patient with my physical difficulties, and willing to guide me with life-changing suggestions. My doctor recommended her. I had been lethargic, extremely weak physically, depressed, and feeling very bad about myself. Now I try new things, have stronger muscles and my overall health is improved.  And, I lost weight.”
